<<<"MAY 31, 2012: NASA astronomers announced Thursday they can now predict with certainty the next major cosmic event to affect our galaxy, Sun, and solar system: the titanic collision of our Milky Way galaxy with the neighboring Andromeda galaxy.

The Milky Way is destined to get a major makeover during the encounter, which is predicted to happen four billion years from now. It is likely the Sun will be flung into a new region of our galaxy, but our Earth and solar system are in no danger of being destroyed.">>>

It is curious that although the galaxies collide and orbits are affected that actual collisions between stars and planets within the colliding galaxies are thought not to come in contact given the vast distances between them.

You can see the Andromeda galaxy as a smudge with the naked eye on a clear night in the Constellation Andromeda. It is coming our way at 2500 miles an hour. One can imagine that there will be sentient beings inhabiting our galaxy four billion years from now. Remains to be seen if our species will still be around or will go the way of most other species which have existed here but are not extinct.

The mere fact that beings with a volitional conceptual consciousness have come to exist in a godless universe by purely natural processes is awe inspiring. It is too easy to take our existence for granted and lose sight of how impressive Nature is all by itself.

OMG! I will not get a good nights sleep for the next two million years. By the way when galaxies collide it is like two smoke rings colliding. There is a lot of space between the stars.
