"Seizing legally owned guns can also be a way for law enforcement agencies to boost their revenue if, as in some cases, they sell the firearms rather than destroying them"

California, New Jersey & Massachusetts lead the way:

It's also part of the larger asset forfeiture problem.

I'd never be so dumb as to have 29 firearms in my house.

When gun owners start shooting cops trying to take their guns, the country will start to literally break up politically and culturally. It won't be pretty. It doesn't have to happen. Cops are going to be reined in by video both of them and from them. Their too big balls will be replaced by smaller sets. And that goes for the police departments they ride in on. It all takes a lot of time, generational time. We still have these stupid drug laws. The American Evita, BTW, isn't Hillary--she wants to be Juan--it was Mrs. Reagan. Her largess was pushing the turbo button on the drug wars. Who the fuck elected her? Who elected her husband? Cultural prohibitionists. The government as daddy. And mommy. Everybody else are children. The war on drugs is only more feel good crap, never mind the resultant crap. We live in a world of government crap. Call it welfare.

The phrase "quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" dates back to ancient Rome. This is yet another example of people stealing from Rand and not giving her credit.

Oh how witty, using Juvenal's poetry to degrade Rand.

So clever.

So meaningless.

I am led to believe by your attitude that Rand is only a credit-stealing irritant who, along with Branden, had nothing to do with the flowering of libertarianism in the 60s and 70s. Glory to Rothbard! Basically it's all politics and economics which is why you and Greg keep talking past each other because for him it's basically all morality. The logically integrated philosophy of Objectivism, from metaphysics through politics, means little or nothing to either of you. In spite of my having many criticisms of Objectivism, I do not and cannot share either compartmentalized world view of human being and action and completely embrace libertarianism even though I no longer call myself an "Objectivist," though the reasoning behind my attitude is more complex and nuanced--to wit: I cannot stand anti-intellectualism and most so-called Objectivists embrace it and always have--dogmatically--ironically unknowingly. It's too much strain and work to keep explaining that I'm an Objectivist but not that kind of Objectivist--whatever the Objectivist or Objectivism de jure is. In any case, I'm not a label.

Never said anything of the kind. Rand was the single most important influence on the founders of the Libertarian Party. I have in fact written that on this forum.

Yes it is... and we always will because we each live by completely different values.

Morality is the basis of economic success... and a lack of morality is the basis of political success.
