Canadian federal election: Socialists at the Gates?

I see Canada will be honoured with a state dinner in Washington on March 10.

We love that kind of shit. I think the last one was around mid-nineties, almost twenty years. Stephen Harper didn't get one.

Your state does a stunning job of official visit hoopla. It is going to be a lovefest, if a short one.

Here comes Ayn Rand via Rona Ambrose sneaking in, yea, with nose under the very tent of Canada...

Meet the New Ayn Rand-Loving Leader of Canada's Conservative Party

Michael

OK, let's see a show of OL hands...other than the political malapropism of using libertarian and conservative as some nexus, do folks here agree with the description of Ayn as an "arch-conservative?"

She, too, comes from very similar stock to Harper. Born into an oil family, she is, despite her outrage at marijuana use, a self-described libertarian — as well as a fan of arch-conservative author Ayn Rand — and will likely do little to curry favour with the political center in Canada.

A...

Ok.

Does anyone want to address the issue I raised which was:

do folks here agree with the description of Ayn as an "arch-conservative?"

Here is a cute thought from the anti-Islamist worthy, Daniel Pipes, cute in this case meaning small and bizarre and kind of sleazy.

He has not a freaking clue how politics works in Canada, insofar as 'courting the ethnic vote' goes. Ayn Rand would puke at the amount of folk-dancing our pols have to put up with, and how much the 'ethnic vote' counts in our forsaken hellhole. Thank goodness President Trump will be figuring all that stuff out. Why do they hate us?

Just to set the record straight, Trudeau is Sikh, as was Tory PM Harper, and so too the premier of this province, Christy Clark. At least for the days in a year needed to suck up Sikh voter support.

Below, Harper and Clark presiding over a gay marriage at Sikh Homestead Day in BC. Below that, Trudeau with elder brothers Sandhu, Manpreet and Parminder Trudeau, stepmother Hedy Fry and various happy family, at yet another gay marriage ceremony.

Lesson: the best way to protect yourself from Those People hating you, is to go with the Sikhs. They vastly outnumber the Muslims up here, and intend to keep it that way. Allies in Anglo-Saxon values of democracy, self-interest, and slavish pandering to group identity politics.

And every single one I have met is a damn hard working guy, very polite and very kind. I remember back when there was that hoopla about one entering a legion with his turban. I was pissed! Not at him, but at the ignorant pricks that hassled him. The Sikhs fought hard and died for our country in WWll and are very brave. It was shameful what was said to him.

More than that J., the utter irrationality that is anti rational thought, anti objectivism, anti classical conservatism and just plain stupid to evaluate your fellow citizen by his "look."

Dennis Miller, a lost liberal who found his way to the good side, states clearly that bigotry makes no sense because, "If you get to know someone, you will be able to find more than enough reasons to not like them!"

The Sikhs are very insular here in the US, for example in Queens County, NY City. Generally, there is a Temple which is the hub of the community. Similar to the Church, Temple [Jewish], Mosque for other immigrant groups.

They are excellent business people and extremely disciplined. A pleasure to work with.

However, they can be crazy mothers when there is honor involved. Most of the "public" will see the story of the sword wielding man at the Temple.

This thread touched on some interesting ideas about the early "mystics."

Seems that blanket attack by Ayn was a "story line too far."

The talented polemicist lets loose on electable American-born brown person of apparent Sikh heritage and extraction** (now Christian of note, eats meat, drives 4X4 on mud runs, hunts possum for food, yo). In an earlier tweet she contended that Trump should deport the brown governor, which was fucking hilarious. No doubt her bozillians of followers will find this bit hilarious too. I know I did.

In the context of real-world Canadian politics, Pipes's weird Muslim Trudeau bong-hit contrasts not-so-strongly with RefugeeISISimmigrant hoopla. If I was a Sikh American I would definitely laugh with Ann Coulter. Like things deep-fried on a stick, Ann is all-American. Who doesn't cackle if not chomp at this?

Trick questions: How many Muslims versus Sikhs in Canada's cabinet? How many in ratio in Parliament? How wrong was William to earlier state that Sikhs outnumber Muslims in Canada and want to keep it that way?

Hint: There are roughly half a bajillion each.

-- on a lighter note, I think Nikki Haley sounds normal. She is actually tough on immigration, and knows her state well-enough to look forward to crushing all rivals next time out.  She pointed out that Trump does not command total Republican support on the narrow issue of religious barriers. She spoke her mind as well as sounding the bell for American values.

In so doing she also pointed out that it is Trump who needs to win her over, not the other way around. He is smart enough to understand she was not rebuking him, but cautioning him on the limits of his support and his need to broaden it to include her -- as a unifying leader will need to do.  She sounded southern, all-American, conservative and smart, and I would vote for her to run my city in a heartbeat should Trump deport her north along with the other names on Ann's list.  Trump's rejoinders were small-minded at best.  He sometimes should just smile.

Here is Haley with some Trudeau cousins at yet another gay nuptial.  And a picture of her in India on tour of temples with her cousin  Jeb Singh Hogwallow and various Trudeaus. Not the one with the Liberace headgear.

Haley was born and raised as a Sikh. On September 6, 1996, she married Michael Haley in both a Methodist church ceremony and a Sikh gurdwara. Haley identifies herself today as a Christian,  but attends both Sikh and Methodist services. She sits on the board for Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church

Her husband is an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard and was sent on a year-long deployment to Afghanistan in January 2013. The couple have two children, Trig and Trag Rena and Nalin.
