Are you saying that compared to the militaries in Germany and France in 1939 there are no parallels to Russia and the Ukraine? Or to the invasions by Germany, and the Allied response as compared to the current situation with Russia, The Ukraine, and NATO? Putin is sly enough to expand about once every other year, but with Obama still in office that time table may be speeded up.

Nukes are ignored by everyone except as an unlikely occurrence. Remember Kennedy bringing us to the brink in 1962? People were panicking and storing water. This is not like that. Yet. Why should Putin change his tactics just because the ruble is down and the world is shaking its head?

First of all Peter...

Who is going to stop Putin?

President Barack Hussein O'bama? How?

Is he going to draw a pink line in the dirt at Poland's border?

Exactly. NO. And its unfortunate that Putin will see American and NATOs stance as timid in the Ukraine. I am answering my own questions to Brant too as you may be. I will say the press it not alarming many people as they did before WWII and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Is that what it takes to have a global conflict if you are not a dictator? An alarmed or government manipulated free press? It may be an ingredient.

About a month ago, Wolf referenced the Stars and Stripes and its response to the Russian incursions and it was much more like the American newspapers in 1962 than the lame stream media. The folks on this site can become upset but it will not influence much unless it goes viral. Or gets twittered.

Let the global placement of your military resources begin:

Latest

16.03 Ukraine's prime minister has rejected Putin's proposals for peace in Ukraine, saying they were an attempt to deceive the West on the eve of a Nato summit and to avoid new sanctions against Moscow.

"The real plan of Putin is to destroy Ukraine and to restore the Soviet Union," Arseny Yatseniuk said in a statement.

"All previous agreements made with Russia - in Geneva, in Normandy, in Berlin and in Minsk - were ignored or brazenly violated by the Russian regime," he said.

15.53 The US military-led exercises, dubbed "Rapid Trident 14", are to be held between September 13-26 in western regions close to Nato-member Poland, the Polish defence ministry said in a statement.

15.23 In what is likely to increase tensions in the country, AFP reports that Ukraine is to host US-led military drills in mid-September.

14.58 Barack Obama urged Nato to send an "unmistakable message of support" to Ukraine ahead of an alliance summit in Wales.

Obama also called on members of the military alliance to "step up" to their responsibilities in a speech to university students in Estonia's capital Tallinn as part of a visit to Baltic states spooked by apparent Russian meddling in eastern Ukraine.

The Russians are coming. The Russians are coming. From Adam's news report:

Some speculation? Ukraine is deathly wary of Russia. Ukraine is warmly positive and unafraid of NATO. If NATO forces join Ukrainian forces in war games it would create a tripwire making it less likely Russia will continue with its inch by inch invasion of Ukraine. Joint war games would also increase the chance of conventional war between NATO and Russia. Conventional war also increases the chance for a nuclear war. Let me look. Hmm? Can I shout out: The Russians are leaving! The Russians are leaving!

I would not downplay Putins intelligence, or slyness. He has ten contingency plans at his fingertips. And whatever plans NATO may have will be ruined by Obama very soon.

And Putin is about to remind everyone of that...nice call Brant...

(Reuters) - The forces responsible for Russia's strategic nuclear arsenal will conduct major exercises this month involving more than 4,000 soldiers, the Defence Ministry said on Wednesday, in the latest sign of rising tension with NATO over the Ukraine crisis.

In an announcement a day before the start of a NATO summit in Wales, RIA news agency quoted the ministry as saying the exercises would take place in Altai in south-central Russia and would also include around 400 technical units and extensive use of air power.

The agency quoted Dmitry Andreyev, a major in the strategic rocket forces, as saying troops would practice countering irregular units and high-precision weapons, and "conducting combat missions in conditions of active radio-electronic jamming and intensive enemy actions in areas of troop deployment."

Germany could conquer and did. Russia can destroy and might. The more Russia involves its conventional forces the weaker the result. The Soviet Union threatened the whole of western Europe with its conventional forces alone. Now Russia can only half-ass threaten Ukraine. It might even conquer Ukraine, but it won't digest it. Ukrainians hate Russia.

Putin, like the peacock showing his feathers, will indeed flaunt his arsenal. Plus this KGB heavyweight enjoys slapping the flyweight Obama around.

Hahaha

I think ISIS just made a fatal mistake. It is one thing for them to threaten the US and other western nations that actually respect(somewhat) individual rights but are mostly crippled into indecisiveness by the PC libtards who are too afraid of offending their own shadow....

But threaten a country that is known to deal harshly with "dissidents" and from time to time actually practices genocide as public policy?

Could be um..interesting.

Good catch. Now a Muslim state is ready to pounce on the radicals. Who else can they deliberately ally against themselves? ISIS leadership seems to be lethal but dumb. And it may lack control over its army which is composed of young thugs with bravado and cell phone, video cameras.

Some have mentioned how decrepit Russias conventional forces have become, even if they can trample on the Ukrainian Army. But what about the U.S. which cannot kill a rag tag army in a somewhat flat desert terrain? Where is our Air Force? The problem for us is intelligence too. We would need to have special forces on the ground, and drones, and other reconnaissance in the air with near zero chance of an American being taken alive. That would really hurt Obama's feelings and he is SO depressed as it is.

Amazing what does not make the news in the "regime"s" media...

KIEV/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Ukraine's military accused Russia on Friday of sending a column of 32 tanks and truckloads of troops into the country's east to support pro-Russian separatists fighting government forces.

Thursday's cross-border incursion, if confirmed, is a significant escalation of a conflict that has killed more than 4,000 people since the separatists rose up in mid-April and would call into question Russia's commitment to a two-month-old ceasefire deal.

Hey Hillary...is this what re-set means? What an incompetent.

DONETSK, Ukraine — Unexpectedly, at the height of the Ukrainian winter, war has exploded anew on a half-dozen battered fronts across eastern Ukraine, accompanied by increasing evidence that Russian troops and Russian equipment have been pouring into the region again.

A shaky cease-fire has all but vanished, with rebel leaders vowing fresh attacks. Civilians are being hit by deadly mortars at bus stops. Tanks are rumbling down snowy roads in rebel-held areas with soldiers in unmarked green uniforms sitting on their turrets, waving at bystanders — a disquieting echo of the “little green men” whose appearance in Crimea opened this stubborn conflict in the spring.

The renewed fighting has dashed any hopes of reinvigorating a cease-fire signed in September and honored more in name than in fact since then. It has also put to rest the notion that Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, would be so staggered by the twin blows of Western sanctions and a collapse in oil prices that he would forsake the separatists in order to foster better relations with the West.

"Lithuania to reinstate conscription amid Russia fears"

Vilnius (AFP) - Lithuania announced on Tuesday it would return to limited conscription later this year as concern mounts over Russian military exercises near NATO Baltic states.

"We must temporarily renew mandatory military service," President Dalia Grybauskaite told reporters. "The current geopolitical environment requires us to enhance and accelerate army recruitment."

Nothing more permanent than a "temporary" government decision...
