When I lived at Fort Campbell, Kentucky around 1962 we were the first people to live on a man made circle. Our back yards led to a central, small pond. After a huge rain in was a big pond. We complained about the smell and mosquitos, so the army sent an engineer with dynamite. Everyone stood there watching when the blast went off. Nothing happened. There was laughter and a few jeers because the engineer said he could get it to drain after reading underground imaging. He set another charge and the water quickly drained into a cavern.
