Atheism Still Selling Well

Good grief, Adam! Are you suggesting that I want to enslave you ? (you wish)

Tony made a nice personal reference and I responded in kind with an allusion to the South African national fish.

You of all people, I thought, would appreciate the tone of the exchange.

As I said, "I apologize for the edgy statements..."

Cumulatively folks who "present proudly" as "socialists," with the miserable corpse laden history of that "...ism..." concern me. O'bama, and the supportive media, are an end result of that touchy, feely "cumbaya," sweet dreams fantasy imaging.

Thankfully, you have no "dog" in our fight. However, if we go down that road this election that would mean that there is a basic voting plurality that endorses the theory that:

a) the owner of the business did not build her/his business;

b) the state is the arbiter of the money it extorts from us at the point of a state "gun;" and

c) the individual is a piece of inventory for the use of the state.

If that is the case, it is basically over here.

And as I cry for the potential death of my country and all the incredible beauty and freedom she has brought to the world, I get angry at the "altruistic enslavement' that is encysted in the "facade" of "socialist" pap that is spotted from folks that live under the banner of freedom that the United States

provides.

Adam, I know it is hard for a political activist with an upcoming election to hear this, but please, do not align yourself to a doomsday deadline.

America is stronger than ideology. It has survived every idea anybody ever thought up. America will live and freedom shall ring.

It can't happen here...does not work for me anymore Carol.

I will not be around to see this dance completed.

I am taking every action now that I can.

I appreciate you sentiments.

There's one -ism that's responsible for many more corpses and that would be "Nationalism".

Adam,

You're hardly going to find a bigger opponent of socialism than I, although I attack

its roots of altruism-collectivism. Edgy? yes me too: and I have a front-row seat

to a country in the process of imploding through progressive-socialist-marxist ideology.

My basic premise here at OL or just about anywhere, is that bad ideas get people killed, and I will

become angry with bad ideas. It's not academic theory for me.

But the world would be a lonely and unenjoyable place without those rare people one meets,

who possess integrity and self-honesty. Their ideology is nearly always going to be in contradiction

to mine, but great character comes first. 'Mixed premises', our over-used truism, explains

it very well, though rather broadly. Most of them genuinely don't see what their explicitly held philosophy can and will bring about. Most would be horrified and disbelieving if you showed them the logical conclusion which can only (?) happen in Africa.

There are some wonderful people around, up to the point of their belief system,

and for my own sake I am learning to carefully separate the individual from the ideology -

up to a point - and fight the idea, first and foremost before the person.

Tony:

Of course you are correct about separating the person from the ideology.

I just feel completely frustrated to see this clown in the White House continue to spout an ideology of death.

More frustrating is to believe that my countrymen are taken in by it.

When has the wisdom of the American public manifested itself, and just how often?

They have never been this stupid. The progressive dumbing down is reaching the tipping point. Some lady wrote a book about it in 1957...

Really? The American electorate voted FDR into office 4 times straight. That must tell you something.

The American electorate voted Jimmy Carter into office once, which is still worse.

And FDR was more hated than Obama is. So far.

As you are quite aware, the "Great Depression" was an anomaly, as was WW II. Clearly, the electorate was scared to death and thought it best not to make any changes.

I'm not gonna name any names but someone on this thread could use some therapy sessions or maybe a personal massage with a happy ending will do the trick.

I think we all could !Let's get some quotes for group rates!

The implication is there is no overlap between nationalism and socialism. In fact there is so much your statement is simply not true. These concepts exist on different levels. Socialism underlies nationalism if we include fasicsm, Nazism, communism plus jejune socialism and mix them all up along with all secular isms that came to power. Nationalism was the biggie in WWI, that's practically all for the previous century. Appeals to nationalistic fevor beating the drums of war is just agi-prop with a big tribal tie in. No other century matches up with the amount of outright killing by governments as the 20th. The 21st? Wait until there's more bodies to count. Now, if you were to substitute tribalism for nationalism you'll have a true statement. Everybody is a tribalist. I, for instance, belong to the not-a-tribalist tribalizing (nascent) tribe and you are welcome to join. The only tribe impervious to nationalism because there aren't enough of us and we are too scattered. That's today. Tomorrow, we'll rule the world!

Bobby:

Now that old rhetorical trick just does not fly...

The attorney, who, in summation, states that, "Now, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I could have mentioned Witness 'X's' conviction for child abuse in Ohio during my examination of him, however, I believe you can evaluate his valueless testimony without knowing that fact."
