Mr. Low did not break his fast until the end of the eighth day. Then, at Madison Square Garden, before the astonished gaze of 16,000 people, he established nine world records for strength and endurance, which stood for years before they were broken. These records are: "Raising 950 pounds three times in four seconds. Raising 500 pounds twenty times in fifteen seconds. Throwing 56-pound weight thirteen feet six inches (for height). Leg-lifting--Raising with legs alone 1,000 pounds fifty times in twenty-five seconds. Leg-lifting--Raising with legs alone 1,500 pounds thirty-five times in twenty-five seconds. Raising with legs alone 1,800 pounds eighteen times in eighteen seconds. Back lifting--bringing all the muscles of the back into action raising 2,500 pounds five times in ten seconds. Raising 2,200 pounds twelve times in twelve seconds. Raising 2,200 pounds twenty-nine times in twenty seconds."

Shelton -- The Science and Fine Art of Fasting; Chapter XVI

Explanation: The word 'fast' has multiple shades of meaning. With Shelton, to fast means to live on air and water and sleep, no food. When Muslims do their 30-day fast that is, as Shelton uses the word, a series of 30 12-hour fasts with possibly pigging out between.

There is fast and there is half-fast.

Obviously that never happened.

You need food to keep up your strength. Everyone knows this. If there are any kooks who don't believe it, try going without food for a few days. Typically on the 4th day the body shuts down.

There is no reason to take Mr. Low's word that he went without food for 8 days. Any good investigator like James Randi would find that Mr. Low was eating on the sneak. We heard stories of people who go without food and without water for years. That's all fraud.

The source of this story has no credibility. Shelton was in jail multiple times. It's normal for him to say things that rational people don't believe.
