On The View today, (Gilbert?) who plays the young lady scientist on The Big Bang and sometimes boffs Leonard and who is also a lesbian in real life said we should be tolerant of the lady who *simulated* being black just as we are sympathetic towards Bruce Jenner / Caitlin. I get her point but was fraud involved to reach a higher position in the NAACP? I saw she just resigned.

Personally, if a white woman was married to a black man, it was be smart to simulate being black. It would be safer, especially in racially biased parts of the country. A few times on the Board Walk in Ocean City, Maryland I have seen a white woman walking with a black man and they were heckled by young black women of high school age or a bit older. And the other *intolerant* and nosy thing that occurs especially in a store, is when an older white woman scrutinizes and comments about a mixed race baby. That may be human nature to look but not to comment to the mother about your conclusions.

Here is what I thought was the most interesting comment on Rachel Dolezal's serial misrepresentations, from the Daily Beast: "The Psychology of an Ethnic Fraud: Behind Rachel Dolezal’s Invented Persecution."

I followed the eruption of this issue on Twitter (the world's early-warning system for all kinds of stupidity). What interested me as ever was the psychology. What was it that drove this women to abandon her real family, what were the issues that made her a suspect in Spokane for a whole lot of people? Why did she instruct her brothers to not 'out' her? What kind of mental trap had she built herself over the years (born in a teepee? Been to Africa? Her adoptive brother now her 'son'? Claiming an unrelated black man as her 'dad'? Claiming cancer? Claiming medical studies?). There is a long-standing pattern here of deception (including possibly bogus harassment and abuse claims); some have plausibly diagnosed-at-a-distance a form of histrionic personality disorder.

But read the Beast article and see if it makes psychological sense to you.

As for the conservative-ish fun with Caitlyn+Rachel, Reason has an interesting opinion in "Don't Confuse Rachel Dolezal with Caitlyn Jenner."

Here's an image from Britain's Daily Mail. Click it to see a neat story about the twins and the genetics behind the rare event:

This was waaaaaaayyyy too rich to pass up.

I realize something equivalent could be done with conservatives, but this is just too spot on not to laugh.

Michael

My take on part of it is that homosexuality is Nature's way to prevent Republicans from reproducing too many of their own kind.

I look to Republicans such as George W. Bush who found convenient ways out of military service… So-called "conservatives" such as John Cornyn of Texas who never met a federal law he did not like (see here: http://www.freedomworks.org/content/senator-john-cornyns-top-ten-bad-votes)…The so-called "Trade Deal" this week which had not too much to do with free trade as it did with buying off China from cashing in their US T-bill bonds…

We see the same thing here on OL as well as on RoR, Galt's Gulch Online and other "objectivish" discussion boards where paleo-conservatives rant in favor of sexism, military aggression, and economic jingoism.

You are really off the rails Michael Marotta.

Adam,

Certain ancaps (not all, but some--I won't say who, that is, in case anyone thinks I am referencing MM  ) are generally the noisiest and they tend to try to speak for all ancaps when they snark, thus they give the class a black eye.

This kind of ancap doesn't like to say he has a dick. When he "has" something, to him it is private property, meaning it can be sold or rented on the free market. And that causes cognitive dissonance. (How do you sell your dick, anyway? :) )

In fact, this has created such a problem, there are hardly any women ancaps. Have you noticed? Almost all men. So far, there is no way to make an ancap utopia last longer than one generation of males.

I think the root is these noisy-type ancaps never understood the difference between having a dick and being one. Women simply stay away from confusions like that.

See here, for instance: Why Are There Fewer Libertarian Women? Because Anarchist Men Are Disgusting (Subtitle: Dear Anarcho-Capitalist Guys: No, We Will Never Sleep With You) by Lily Goldberg (published June 9, 2015).

And this:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Just Like Rachel Dolezal ... I've Been Living a Lie
6/15/2015
TMZ Staff
TMZ

From the article:

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was inspired by Rachel Dolezal ... and even Caitlyn Jenner ... to step forward and reveal a huge secret of his own.

Kareem said, "I've decided to come out with the truth. I am not tall...

. . .

"Although I've been claiming to be 7'2" for many decades, the truth is that I'm 5'8"."

:)

I want to add to this. I saw it elsewhere and even wrote a comment.

Here is what I said:

Since it's confession time, I have to come clean. I'm secretly a goat. I don't know how well I've hidden it over the years, but the deception has eaten at my soul until, one day in a fit of despair, I almost committed suicide at the local barbecue house.

:)

Does anyone else want to unburden themselves?
