The Social Costs Of Capitalism Are Destroying Earth’s Ability To Support Life — Paul Craig Roberts

First we should define capitalism so we know what we are talking about. Capitalism is defined as a social system based on recognition of rights. In order to be opposed to capitalism you gotta be opposed to rights. Are you opposed to rights?

All those problems he blames on capitalism probably could be looked upon as violations of rights or at least poor public relations.

How would you write an article defending capitalism against this article?

Capitalism???? When the Soviet Union existed it did more to wreck the environment than any other industrialized nation. It turned Lake Baikal from the largest deepest freshwater lake in the world to a fetid puddle.

I have a simple working definition...

Capitalism: ETHICAL WIN/WIN business transactions

Anything else is NOT Capitalism.

It's certainly worthless to anyone who isn't ethical regardless of what they read or remember.

Whoever chooses to live by that simple principle will never have to worry about money for the rest of their life. It's the key to success in business as well as in life.

The problem is that Capitalism isn't what most people think it is... and believing that lie is what insures their failure.

Ayn Rand summed up Capitalism in Francisco's money speech as well as anyone could.

"Money will not serve the mind that cannot match it."

Money demands of you the highest virtues,

if you wish to make it or to keep it."

Brant writes:

Ethical: is this subjective?

In my subjective opinion, it isn't... but I am.

What is ethical is objective... and our subjective responses will either agree or disagree with it.

Never take my word for anything. Find out for yourself empirically. Simply do something you believe is ethical and then watch what happens as the result of what you did. Objective reality will let you know in no uncertain terms whether what you did agreed or disagreed with what is ethical.

Take another look at Ayn Rand's words.

Those are moral axioms.

do ethics flow logically from physical law?

Physical law governs everything physical... whereas ethics pertain uniquely to the right and wrong of how humans treat each other.

Hell, as soon as Paul Craig Roberts moves into a place like this, I might start listening to his warnings about capitalism:

You don't get to eat off of capitalism and stay within it by choice soaking up all the benefits, then bitch about how evil it is. Not unless you want people to think that you, yourself, are an evil capitalist.

It's a words and deeds kinda thing.
