Video meth stories

Non-addicts might not find this too interesting. A fundamental part of recovery is one addict listening to another relate his/her experiences, feel the identification, and understand that he/she is not a freak of nature. It is extremely comforting to know that others have been there, experienced the same perplexities and heartaches, the same insecurities, the same apathy and rage, the same hope, and there are details to prove it.

These videos do not replace live people, but they are a start.

As this is a thread geared toward helping those with a serious problem, I request that people who have strong anti-addiction views refrain from posting any derogatory comments here. They will be removed.

A message to addicts. Whoever you are out there, regardless of your situation, you can get better. I was where you are and I got better. It is possible. Yes, indeed. Possible for you.

If you want personal contact, my email is mikellyusabr@yahoo.com. I care. Yes, I am an Objectivist. And I still care.

Thanks for sharing this link Michael. I was a meth addict for about 10 years, from age 15 to 24. I didn't want to comment on this thread; what's past is past. But Michael, those video's moved me to tears. I tried so many things to help me win the battle against addiction: therapy, religion, ... etc .... All to no avail. But the one positive of my struggle was, that no matter how daunting the odds, I finally realized there was only one person who could free me from the madness of my chrystal meth addiction, ME. I had a lot of help from some kind people along the way, but I was the one who conquered my demons and liberated myself from the depths of hell that is addiction. And for that, I'm damn proud of myself.

Mick,

That took balls to do what you just did.

You can take heart in knowing that I wasn't the only one who saw it. Just because other addicts don't say anything doesn't mean that it did not touch them. It did.

I am glad you found the videos valuable. I was certainly moved by them.

It ain't over, though. I don't think I need to tell you, but it ain't over. It seems like the urge just goes into hiding, only to pop out and fuck with you at the wrong time. The good news is that it gets weaker over time.

I respect my own personal demon (in the sense one respects an enemy—treats with extreme caution). It's been a while since he has visited, but I know he is in there somewhere and I know the damage he can do if I make light of him.

Shine on. Thanks for speaking up. It was important to me for my own problem.

I've had experience with both meth users and alcoholics. Meth is much worse if you factor out driving drunk. If you go to sleep drunk you'll wake up sober. On meth, well, first you have to get to sleep. It takes days to wear off. Intervention is next to impossible because the meth addict is taking his next "drink" while still "drunk."

The seriousness of the problem for any one person should not be underplayed in the least bit. It is possible to be a light user of meth and get away with it to some extent for a time, just as it's possible to jump out of a plane without a parachute and get away with it for a time. If you are an addict and realize it and that things need to be done to fix things for you, you are learning to fly again. It won't feel like it at first, but it's true.
