Mark
"Yaron Brook on the Ayn Rand Institute’s Newfound Ecumenism"by Jordan Bloom, The American Conservative (October 15, 2012) Mr. Brook:I don’t think there’s been a significant change in terms of our attitude towards libertarians. Two things have happened. We’ve grown, and we’ve gotten to a size where we don’t just do educational programs, we do a lot more outreach and a lot more policy and working with other organizations. I also believe the libertarian movement has changed. It’s become less influenced by Rothbard, less influenced by the anarchist, crazy for lack of a better word, wing of libertarianism. As a consequence, because we’re bigger and doing more things and because libertarianism has become more reasonable, we are doing more work with them than we have in the past. But I don’t think ideologically anything of substance has changed at the Institute. This part of The American Conservative article might not be true:"... the Ayn Rand Institute, whose founder Leonard Peikoff sold the rightsto the movie ..." Robert Campbell
I don't know the correct language here, but my understanding is that John Aglialoro essentially leased the rights from Leonard Peikoff—and rushed Part I into production when the lease was about to expire.I'm pleased that the ACU writer correctly noted how ARI's official position on libertarianism hasn't changed.Robert Campbell
Guest Anya
Yaron is correct that libertarianism has moved away from Rothbard. What it's moved toward (in public discourse) is Beltway Porn-N-Drugs Liberal think tanks, confused and poorly educated half-fascists of the Tea Party, the completely unprincipled morass of the Libertarian Party and the total chaos of Left Libertarianism. Rothbard actually had some respect for consistency and radicalism, modern libertarianism is a bunch of cosmopolitan Yankee wankers trying to get DC jobs by selling a false bill of goods to anti-intellectual Empire-worshipping hicks. Bleh.
