  1. I think today was Uncle Frank & Aunt Alice's anniversary .
  2. (305, first edition)Nice section Stephen. There is a true joy in the face of a person of faith transformed by the belief in an eternal life. As there was in the awe that Dominique expresses at the beauty of the work of art before her. A... Features and benefits that are extremely "sellable"... After reading this I have a question...is Easter just an American holiday? I mean, I just wondered how Aunt Alice would know what to expect seeing on someone face on Easter in church. I remember as a child Aunt Agnes being there on Easter and even talking to her about Easter, But I don't ever think Aunt Alice ever talked to us about Easter.
  3. Ha ha ha yes HALLELUJAH! They both were great people to me in much different ways. He was her stable ground...her rock, thats for sure. He let her "say" and "be" whatever she wanted without criticism and stood with her in a time where women had to fight for everything.
  4. I only celebrate my birthday and Xmas. I got that from your aunt Alice and her Virtue of Selfishness. --Brant stewing in my own juice (where did I go wrong?) Mr. Selfish (gloat, gloat--I got that part right; that feels good) Happy Easter! ("Allow me to be generous" [Caesar, in Ben Hur]) The more shit I step in the more shit there is to step in) My dear O L friend Brant, you always blow my mind....I am going to have to think about this one for a minute, or maybe longer
  5. Not so sappy I remember as a child believing in all of them, from Santa claus clear to the sandman...what lies we will tell our children just to make life/world seem like a happy place. Hmmm, I wonder if that is such a good thing to do. Hope your Easter was a good one, and if you don't celebrate it, hope you had a great Sunday love from us to yours!
  6. That's a Catholic church. Haven't been to mass in over 45 years. Still remember it though, incense smoke, Father clanging it from side to side coming down the aisle to the pulpit, congregation singing "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty". The smell of the incense smoke made me sick as I would have to kneel on the kneelers that were attached to every pew in front of the next. Communion was the worst, the host tasted like stale styrofoam that I would have to force myself not to gag in front of Father O'shanassy. I hated every Sunday, until I figured out a solution. That's when I would rip open the offering envelope while walking to mass. take the money out, run right past the church and straight uptown for ice cream....until I got caught, but it was fun while it lasted.
  7. The wise ones do. you make me smile thank you!
  8. I wonder how many of us "original Objectivists [pre 1968]" made personal vows, or, oaths concerning her. I know that I did. One had to do with a vow, "by my life and my love for it" that I made when I was sixteen (16). Another had to do with the first "public showing, on the island of Manhattan," of Atlas Shrugged if it would be made into a movie. A... Wow, she really did impact a lot of people...I still have a hard time understanding it. I remember things she said to me as a young child everyday, but it didn't impact my life...or maybe I just thought it didn't. I wish I could have a do over and not have been so naive Parable of the lost sheep works here, Luke 15:3: "15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< It's all about ewe!! A.... I get it and I appreciate it...and learning new things everyday, with the help of memories. I wonder if all people that come to the last chapter of their lives (no pun intended) review the first of of their life's history to understand the person they have become. Or is it just me....

  10. I love your sense of humor Brant. You do so remind me of my father (that's a good thing)!
  11. I knew you had a big heart Brant!
  12. Only she knows the secret now...
  13. Today is the day she passed away in 1982.
  14. Rest in Eternal Peace Aunt Alice
