Rosie, Becky, Suellen,,,sisters of us all

Female prototypes in fiction are remarkably endurant, and depicted by writers of supreme talent, spawn successors forever. I present to you first Rosamund, Eliotian narcissist and manipulatress, spiritual mater of every soap opera diva ever devised and enacted. Becky S., evil fairy at Scarlett Os cradle; and sulky Scarlett sister Suellen, supposed to suck it up. As weaker sisters must.

A perfect storm.

Well put.

Another group that interests me are 'benevolent' female protagonists (I try to avoid the term 'altruistic' because it tends to cause misunderstandings), like e. g. Dorothea Brooke or Isabel Archer in James's Portait of a Lady.

As for films, Hannah in W. Allen's Hannah and her Sisters comes ot mind

And most soap operas have benevolent types too (like e. g. Pamela Ewing in Dallas or Krystle Carrington in Dynasty) especially if there are evil ones figuring the central characters (like J. R. and Alexis) to make those wicked ones a little more 'bearable'.

"Bearable"? Oh, not so much as as for contrast and mixing up and broadening story interest. As for the evil doings? Oh, goody, goody, goody! What's next? Can't wait to find out what J.R. is going to be doing!

evil is as evil does!

Take my use of "bearable" with a grain of salt.

For indeed we we want to see what the 'evil' ones are doing, and didn't primarly watch Dallas, Dynasty etc. because we wanted to see the good ones in action. The benevolent ones are needed for a certain counterbalance though.

Dallas was a real milestone. I think was the first TV series to show a veritable villain (JR) as the hero.

. Of course, Amelia Sedley, Melanie Wilkes, even Belle Watlin....morals of steel, corsets of brass..and Mrs Casaubon, and unattractive Mary, real moral women in an all too real world.

TV villainesses are wonderful fun in an unreal world.

But we can see pucks very very well LOL.

Sure, as they fly past your Canadian goal tenders...seems like the Yankee Hockey Finals came as a result of you Canucks not being able to maintain your own national game...

Maybe you guys should try midget bowling?

OK ladies, are we ready for Ultimate Femlit, OL Division?

Women of Ayn Rands fiction - did /do you identify ? Admire, emulate? Kira, Dominique, Lilian,--first read impressions solicited.

If Dr Presley ever drops in...I would love to know your ideas, also if anyone knows about 2nd-voicer Wendy McEs fictional preferences (yes I mean you Eminent Illinois Intellectual but lack consonants to address you)

I bow in strict acknowledment, and add, team captains of LA and NJ are American, as is proper.

Canadian players still dominate play. And a few Russkis.
