Faith vs. Reason - Minnesota Tea Party kicks out Objectivists over religion?

A Minnesota objectivist organization left a Minnesota Tea Party organization after a dispute over the role of religion in the Tea Party movement. Can one be a follower of Ayn Rand and still remain involved in the Tea Party? Hear what the Front Page regulars think.

Fascinating! I wonder if the frigid Minnesota weather causes brain freezes!

Adam,

Any way to embed the video? Can't see it from work. But from your question, I see the Tea Party and Objectivists as being two overlapping rings. As it turns out, the part that doesn't overlap (in Minnesota, at least) is pretty obvious.

Shane:

I am lost when it comes to embedding videos.

In the video there is a blurb of Newt Gingrich commenting on the Declaration of Independence, points out the words "endowed by our creator" and goes on to say that he believes that a president must accept the existence of a god and must pray in order to have a moral basis for his convictions, to paraphrase him.

We know that is absurd. Objectivists have a moral code and an ethical standard, Man's Life on Earth, which is a principle perfectly capable of arriving at rational conclusions without relying on any mystical religious notions.

Given the likelihood that Herman Cain is about to self destruct leaving Newt Gingrich as a plausible alternative to the unappealing Mitt Romney as the candidate to oppose the utterly dangerous Obama in the 2012 election, it is important to keep in mind that other than this nonsensical position of Mr. Gingrich, he can sound reasonable in other realms.

Second time you predicted that Cain would crash and burn Gulch.

The first time was on abortion...you were dead wrong that time...0 for 1.

Now, because some predatory female wanted his pizza with extra sausage, you are counting him out again, we shall see. Gloria Allred's sexual predator client has a very interesting history and it is all based in the dear olde city of big shoulders.

Were you aware that the sweet little single mom lives in the same building as David Axelrod? Attends the same gym as David Axelrod?

Are you aware that the sweet little stalker pursued Cain at a Tea party speech about four (4) weeks ago? She pushed her way backstage and embraced Cain and was observed whispering in his ear while they embraced.

Curiouser and curiouser that she waited 14 years to become outraged from her description of an alleged sexual assault, don't you think?

But we all know that men are the predator pigs and women never, never come on to men. Certainly not black men, right?

Adam,

You can't embed that video because it is in a members only area. To see it, you have to sign up to PJTV, meaning you have to let them send you emails. At least it's free.

I was struck by how tolerant of religion Don Watkins sounded. He used to be the hard-ass kind of Objectivist and pretty God-awful snarky. He was (and maybe still is) good friend of Diana Hsieh. I know he used to post a lot on Noodlefood.

Interesting...

As to the issue, I'm not too flustered by a formal Objectivist organization not being allowed to be a part of a formal Tea Party organization.

In my view, who gives a hoot? I like the Tea Party to stay fragmented. It keeps the message in front place instead of local political wrangling over who will run the Tea Party.

From what little I have seen, it looks like the Minnesota Tea Party is not run like other Tea Party organizations.

Well... OK. Fine. Do another.

I remember this from the times I have been to Tea Party meetings. Nothing is stopping the Objectivist group from putting together a different Tea Party group. If I'm not mistaken, all they need to do is want to and get busy. There's plenty of information around on how to do this.

Michael:

Thanks. Actually, I am a member and I do get their e-mails, but I had not signed in!

Second, I also see no problem with the Minnesota Tea Party making their own rules and clearly, the Objectivists can form a companion Tea Party which is the actual strength of the Tea Party movement.

I posted this as information and to generate discussion.

Additionally, I was out of the loop during the internet wars in the post split environment so your info on Don Watkins is valuable to me.

As usual, thanks for the direction and info.

I'm not surprised.

Sure, some Tea Party organizations are accepting of all religious beliefs and nonbeliefs.

But others aren't.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me REALLY want to liquidate bibles, burn churches (metaphorically!) and kill Jesus and rape the non-resurrecting corpse (again, METAPHORICALLY!).

I hate Christianity so much.....

ps. the news anchor tries to justify that idiot Gingrich far too much, saying that Gingrich doesn't REALLY want a religious person, just a philosophical person. That's crap. Gingrich is a politician that just wants to get re-elected so he can spend money on long liquid lunches at taxpayer expense.

Glenn Reynolds is a libertarian transhumanist. He should HATE god and Christianity and all of it. Its all just a conspiracy to keep man down, to make him grovel. I say man should be Prometheus. We should steal fire from the gods and humiliate the Olympians. And Jehovah. And Allah. And all of them.

Aw, you just need to meet the right type of Christian woman who can lay some Mary Magdalene on you!
