I currently attend Kean University (which no longer has a philosophy dept. as of last year by the way), majoring in econ and wanting to switch to philosophy, and hoping to transfer to Rutgers in a semester or two. This is where she attends Mike, it is right down the road from my town. Took the words right out of my mouth. Wasn't expecting Adam to answer! Why the switch from Economics to Philosophy? Mike I took an econ class and a philosophy class my first semester and found that I like philosophy better. Econ also requires a lot of math, which isn't my strongest subject, but regardless I just enjoy the study of philosophy more than I do economics.

Good to see there was high attendance in some places. Not many people were at the showing I attended today (5pm).

That made me laugh on the inside. I saw Atlas Shrugged today as well. I thought it was good. Not at the level of the book, of course, but I didn't expect it to be. I enjoyed it and I'll probably see it again with a friend. I went with my grandma this time, and she enjoyed it as well, although she never read the book. She was able to follow the story for the most part, which gives me hope that others who haven't read the book will be able to follow it also, and hopefully they will be inspired to read the book afterward. I thought the acting was good overall, though it did feel slightly... off now and then for some reason. I liked the casting of most of the characters, especially the actress who played Dagny, and I thought the Wesley Mouch casting was spot on. Did he remind anyone else of Barney Frank? The only one who was a little out of place looks-wise for me was Ellis Wyatt. The acting was great, he just didn't look as I imagined when I read the book. I hope this film does well; I'd really like to see parts two and three. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't they leave out the part where Hank goes off on Dagny the morning after they sleep together? Or was that later in the book?

Wow, reminds me a bit of a class my school is offering in the fall, minus the abundance of buzzwords: The worst part is, they aren't even offering an intro to ethics course next semester, which I actually need to take.

Hi everyone, thanks for all of the welcoming. Haven't had much time to do internet stuff since the other day. I'm really just interested in discussing the various aspects of Objectivism and how the principles apply to current events and daily life. I'm aware that sounds vague, but at the moment there aren't any things within that sphere that I came here specifically to discuss. I originally discovered Ayn Rand's works in high school when I had to read Anthem for summer reading. That was my sophomore year I think and though I liked the book I didn't look into Ayn Rand more until I was a senior. At that point I had been getting into politics and I kept hearing Ayn Rand's name being thrown around now and then, so I went back and reread Anthem and then my teacher gave me The Fountainhead to read, and it just progressed from there. I haven't gotten to read many of the Brandens' works at this point, though I did read Nathaniel Branden's essays in Rand's nonfiction books. Also, lol @ the Lollipop Guild thing.
