Truth about the Atlas Shrugged Part 3 Kickstarter

The John Galt Speech, with a few of the events leading up to it, would have made a sucessfull movie IMO.

Title, of course would be "This is John Galt Speaking".

Run time: 3 hrs

Get well known actors

Have a $100 million + budget.

I would like Keifer Sutherland as JG

Angelina Jolie as Dagny.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. The condition for being able to make the movie is that it can't be tweaked so that speech would certainly present a problem.

To be on-site is $3500. To be in the film - and you cannot be in SAG/AFTA - is $5000.

By my "interpretation of the Guard" you mean Dagny's killing the guard outside the State Science Institute torture chamber. We already had that discussion (more than once over the years) and I did not have an opinion. What's your opinion of the man selling cigarettes in the Taggart Terminal? Same question. No answer.

  • Why does Dwight Sanders build and Dagny Taggart fly "monoplanes" when biplanes were obsolete at the start of World War II?

  • What do you think of the push button starter in Hank Rearden's roadster? Surely a millionaire could afford a new car... or it is a priceless antique? You know, truth the tell, the reason that James Bond drives an Aston Martin and John Steed of The Avengers has a Vauxhall, a Bentley, and a Rolls-Royce is that like chocolate rationing, evidence of poverty caused by socialism and war are everywhere in Britain. Maybe Hank Rearden faces the same problems. And does he use toothpaste or toothpowder?

  • Perhaps more to the point, what do you think of the fact that political socialism depends on people first being willingly exploited by their own families?

All good points, and while we are at it: how come there's nothing in the novels about the heroes using birth control? Seems quite irrational and thoughtless to me...

Could it be that Objectivist Heroes were infertile or sterile?

The Goddess of Objectopia chose to be barren.

Well, we don't know that Dagny wasn't pregnant by the end of AS. As for Dominique, obviously she would not get pregnant because that was a Legitimate Rape, by God.

Now that was really funny!

  • 3 weeks later...

The defects of the film have little to do with its budget (Part 1 cost $20 million). As a fan of independent film, each year I see dozens of films made with far, far less while still managing to be beautifully shot, edited and acted.

Film is a visual medium, and the creators of Parts 1 and 2 have apparently never encountered the idea that in order to engage the viewer, one must show more than tell.

Atlas the Book is a tapestry of arresting images, startling contrasts, and larger than life heroes. Atlas the Movie is flat, lifeless and thoroughly ordinary.

There is more drama in a puppet show.

Imo AS simply cannot be adapted into a convincing film, not even with top-notch actors, a large budget and a top-flight director.

Now a big budget re-do of The Fountainhead could be commercially sucessful. I'm all for that.
