Attila Vs. The Witch Doctor - Kant Quarrel Over Philosophy? You Can In Russia!

One of your favorite parts surely had to be:

A police spokeswoman in Rostov-on Don, Viktoria Safarova, said two men in their 20s were discussing Kant as they stood in line to buy beer at a small store on Sunday. The discussion deteriorated into a fistfight and one participant pulled out a small nonlethal pistol and fired repeatedly.

Hmmm might we have a psychological size issue here?

lol what was it, a capgun? High velocity water pistol?

It might have been a paint ball gun. Or, a starte pistol. Or:

Ammunition

Non-lethal rounds are firearm rounds which are designed to incapacitate, but not kill, a target. The rounds rely on the transfer of kinetic energy and blunt force trauma to accomplish this incapacitation. Rubber bullets, wax bullets, plastic bullets, beanbag rounds, ring airfoil projectiles (both kinetic and tear gas projectiles) and rubber bullets with electroshock effect (e.g. Taser XREP rounds) are less lethal than conventional metal bullets, and are also propelled at lower speed by using less propellant. "Bean bag" type bullets are sometimes referred to as flexible baton rounds. More recently, high-velocity paintball guns are also used to launch less-lethal rounds, including the FN 303 launcher and PepperBall commercial products.[15] There is also the Variable Velocity Weapon Concept, for which a propulsion energy source may not yet have been clearly established and/or finalized.[16] In any case, all of these technologies apply the same basic mechanism, which is to launch a mass at the target that interacts kinetically.

It was the DIng an sich that did the damage.

DIng an sich - Origin: Ger, lit., thing in itself

Actually ... Richard Feynman has a passage where he ridicules philosophers for debating what Kant "really" meant by "Das Ding an sich." We translate it easily into Englisch as "The thing in itself." But "an" in German means more like "relative to" or "in relation to" as opposed to "next to."

"Ich stehe an den Tisch." means something different from "Ich stehe neben den Tisch." The latter is literally "... next to the desk." The former is more like "at the desk." "An den Tafel" commonly means "at the blackboard." Hans geht an den Tafel: Johnny goes to the board.

Beethoven listeners know well the Ninth with its Chorale from "Ode an die Freude" by Schiller, which is commonly called in Englisch, "Ode to Joy."

"Das Ding an sich" is the shortest problem in Kant. Try reading Kritik der reinen Vernunft.

Try this:

In the immortal words of the Bing Translator:

If we now that our idea, by we they hypostasize, so also do, so we will Ancient by the mere concept of the Supreme reality as a United, simple, allgenugsames, eternal etc., with a words, it may determine in its absolute entirety by all Prädikamente. The concept of such a being is by God, will minds thought, and so is one the subject of the ideal of pure reason transcendental theology, as I it above have stated.

I tried, but got lost twice. The word allgenugsames has no equivalent in Englisch according to both Langenscheidt's and Oxford. All-enough-some is what Beowulf would have meant by that, perhaps...

Now, imagine arguing it in Russian.

What they needed was the scene in Annie Hall where Woody Allen produces Marshall McLuhan to settle an argument.
