Thanks.

I got lucky with a deferment and then won the lottery with a 340 number which meant the VC had to get to Denver before I would be called.

I am almost sorry I did not get called and then my rational mind smacks me in the back of the head and clears that guilt.

Fascinating graphic...since the release of the e-mails, tweets on Benghazi have "out tweeted" tweets on Hillary on a daily basis.

Great graph on this in the article...

I must be older than you, there was no "lottery" when I was ordered in (late 1967), just a massive sweep of the neighborhood's young males. We were notified by letter which said, in the opening line, "By order of the President of the the United States you are hereby ordered to report"...that's all I remember, after we were classified 1A or 1Y (limited duty) by the Selective Service Dept. It was LBJ's justification(?) for his massive troop build-up at that time.

What makes me uncomfortable is when some have said to me, throughout the years, "thank you for your service". I always tell them there is no need to thank me since it was forced upon me & I made the best of it. What I usually get back from them is a puzzled look. What often followed is a discussion of the immorality of the draft....& that's another story.

P.S. I wish I had your luck then. Good for you.

As I recall another aspect of the Bengazi disaster was that the embassy was requesting reinforcements from the powers that be repeatedly for months before the actual attack too place. I believe that these requests were dutifully ignored for who knows what reason all those months. I believe that Ms Clinton was aware of these requests as well.

I wonder why this business about failed requests for military reinforcements is not being mentioned nowadays. If such reinforcements had been supplied the Embassy might have been able to adequately protect itself and those four who were murdered might still be alive.

The focus instead seems to be on how long it would take for our forces to arrive once the attack started. Instead of coming to the rescue those who could have made a difference were waiting for orders to proceed. The normal reaction within the military I hear is to "run toward the gunfire" without waiting for orders to do so!

Tyrants often get away with murder and incompetence. Every once in awhile they are rewarded with re election.

What audacity for them to try to brush this Bengazi episode off as they are doing. I heard a clip of our president saying that his administration had complied with requests for documents and sent everything already months ago. So more evidence of another lie by the transparent one in chief.

I like to think that each time he does so he loses more of those who voted for him but can still think for themselves.

Were AR alive today the Benghazi story would probably have been addressed in her "Horror File" section of the Objectivist Newsletter. It's that repugnant.

You are completely correct on the requests for protection and beefing up security which was made by the Ambassador himself. His requests were sent directly to the "Smartest Woman In The World's" office.

Result...four (4) dead Americans, one an ambassador...thanks a lot Hillary, way to do your job.

Selene,

I appreciate your agreement that Clinton had ignored requests from the Ambassador in the Bengazi Embassy for months before the attack. She doesn't seem to be questioned on that point.

In re reading my post I am surprised you didn't catch me on this:

If they are able to think for themselves how come they voted for him in the first place!?

I didn't need to "catch you" on it, I agreed with it.

As to the serial liar who occupies the White House, don't assume that his base even knows that he is a liar because he is just going to not respond.

As Mark Levin refers to the basic media being his Praetorian Guard, they are barely reporting the:

Benghazi story;

IRS story;

ACA debacle;

Fast and Furious story[hundreds of Mexicans and a border control agent or two killed by unfollowed assault rifles;

and that is just a start.

Not sure he could use that precise name.

However, he could use "fright files."

Another "Benghazi mystery mirage" [Libya-desert-sand-mirages - get it] is where was the serial liar from approximately 5:30 PM of the day of the terrorist attack on the embassy when he finished his phone call with "The Smartest Woman In The World?" and the next morning?

Apparently, the serial liar was "off the grid." First of all, that is highly improbable and from what I understand about the Secret Service, that is not possible!

So where was he for sixteen [16] hours? We had the Evelyn Woods tape gap with Nixon which was under twenty [20] minutes.

This was sixteen [16] HOURS!

Surely the Secret Service knows. Subpoena the head of the Secret Service after you depose him under oath and the subpoena should be completely specific to that time period. Their only way to fight that would be to claim Executive Priviledge which shouid fail as it does not apply to a specific record not under Executive control as I understand it.

When he appears, you swear him under oath and go for it.

More potential manipulation:

Non-Farm Payrolls data released on Friday shows that the workforce shed 806,000 jobs in April, a stunning drop that cannot plausibly be blamed on the weather. Wage growth and hours worked were both flat and the manufacturing hours per week fell.

This follows news earlier in the week that the economy to a halt in the first quarter. Growth plummeted to 0.1pc and is now well below the Fed’s “stall speed” indicator. Analysts blamed this on the freezing polar vortex over the winter.

Yet the jobs data confirm a disturbingly weak picture. The headline unemployment rate fell to 6.3pc but that was only because the labour “participation rate” plummeted back to a modern-era low of 62.8pc, last seen in 1978 when there were far fewer women in the workforce. The rate for males is the lowest ever recorded at 69.1pc.

The jobs market is highly volatile – and is often revised later – but the data are a warning that the US recovery may be losing momentum. Lakshman Achuthan, from the Economic Cycle Research Institute, said the trend was already weakening long before the cold weather. “We see a failure to launch. We’re decelerating, not accelerating, and that is a big concern,” he said.

And by the way, as far as I can see, there was and there is not any recovery at all.

IN PHOTOS: A Benghazi Timeline

The Pakistani PM and Clinton photo seems unclear who was calling it a terrorist attack...the wording makes me think it is Hillary.

Have not had a chance to go through that section to ascertain who called it a terrorist attack.

The Chairman of the Congressional Select Committee, Trey Gowdy said to the media:

(Scott Johnson)

… the media about Benghazi (video below). Working as a prosecutor, he learned how to ask questions. In his capacity as the chairman of the House Select Committee, he may get some answers.

RealClearPolitics has posted the video along with this transcript:

We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act in Benghazi, and make no mistake, justice will be done.” That was the president of the United States over a year ago.

We’re investigating exactly what happened, but my biggest priority now is bringing those folks to justice.” That was the president of the United States over a year ago. No one has been arrested. No one has been prosecuted. No one has been brought to justice. We don’t even have access to the witnesses

.

You in the media were good enough for my 16 years as a prosecutor not to tell me how to do my job, and so far in Congress, y’all have been good enough not to tell me how to do my job. I’m not telling you how to do your job. But I’m going to ask you some questions, and if you can’t answer these questions, then I’ll leave you to draw whatever conclusion you want to draw about whether or not the media has provided sufficient oversight.

Can you tell me why Chris Stevens was in Benghazi the night that he was killed? Do you know? Does it bother you whether or not you know why Chris Stevens was in Benghazi? Do you know why we were the last flag flying in Benghazi after the British had left and the Red Cross had been bombed? Do you know why requests for additional security were denied? Do you know why an ambassador asking for more security days and weeks before he was murdered and those requests went unheeded? Do you know the answer to why those requests went unheeded?

Do you know why no assets were deployed during the siege? And I’ve heard the explanation — which defies logic, frankly — that we couldn’t have gotten there in time, but you know, they didn’t know when it was going to end. So how can you possibly cite that as an excuse? Do you know whether the president called any of our allies and said, “Can you help? We have men under attack.” Can you answer that?

Do any of you know why Susan Rice was picked? The secretary of state did not go. She says she doesn’t like Sunday talk shows. That’s the only media venue she does not like, if that’s true. Why was Susan Rice on the five Sunday talk shows? Do you know the origin of this mythology that it was spawned as a spontaneous reaction to a video? Do you know where that started? Do you know how we got from no evidence of that to that being the official position of the administration?

In conclusion, Congress is supposed to provide oversight, the voters are supposed to provide oversight, and you are supposed to provide oversight. That’s why you have special liberties, and that’s why you have special protections. I am not surprised that the president of the United States called this a phony scandal. I’m not surprised Secretary Clinton asked, “What difference does it make?” I’m not even surprised that Jay Carney said

Benghazi happened a long time ago. I’m just surprised at how many people bought it.

Asounding isn't it.

To have those basic questions answered is essential and the US should not need to rely on a public outcry in the press to have them answered, as occurred with the Watergate affair. Sometimes I think politicians and The Press have no honor OR they are politically coerced as is the Press in Putins new Russia.

Rush has some comments:

He's about as smug as he ever gets. If this email is what Issa says it is, the Obama administration deserves every bit of that smugness.

Here's an article from TheBlaze about it. The quote speaks for itself.

Limbaugh Says You May Be Missing the Point on White House’s Alleged Response as ‘Terrorists Were Unleashing Hell’ in Benghazi
by Jason Howerton
May. 23, 2014
TheBlaze

From the article:

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is claiming that a classified email that he’s reviewed indicates that the White House contacted YouTube within hours of the Benghazi terror attack to warn the video sharing website about posting the anti-Muslim video. Critics allege the email shows the White House was almost immediately tying the video to the attack, even before real intelligence started coming in.

“The memo suggests even as the attack was taking place, as the al Qaeda terrorists were unleashing hell on the consulate, and before the CIA began the process of compiling talking points on its analysis of what happened, the White House believed it was in retaliation for a controversial video,” Limbaugh explained, partially reading from a report. “The subject line of the email… is ‘update on response to actions-Libya.’”

Limbaugh joked that Americans were worried about what President Barack Obama was really doing on the night of the Benghazi attack in September of 2012, but as it turns out “he on the phone with YouTube… Can you believe this?”

“Issa’s point is: They have claimed all along, the White has, the regime, has claimed all along that the CIA is who told them that the attacks were due to the video,” he said. “But the emails that claim the White House was on the phone with YouTube to get the video taken down, those emails occurred before the CIA ever said anything at the time.”

Maybe the President should spend less time on YouTube and more time with his intelligence reports.

Sometimes I think the world is a big video game to Obama.

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York

and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

“There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing,” said one official. “We found

out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.”

The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist

control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the Benghazi attack, which the Obama administration initially said was the result of a spontaneous demonstration against an anti-Muslim video.

A senior State Department counterterrorism official declined to comment on reports of the stolen jetliners.
