Cure Type 2 Diabetes With Sugar & White Rice - Dr. McDougall

I knew that type 2 diabetes can be reversed, but this seems almost ridiculous. Can it really be that simple? Type 2 diabetes is caused by excess fat clogging the cells and interfering with sugar metabolism?

The refined sugar part is just to make a point. It is not a good thing. Better is nutritarian, high ratio of micronutrients over calories.

Obesity is a major risk factor for Type 2. While these doctors may be correct be aware that sugar, potatoes, and rice help make you fat too so watch total caloric intake. Thanks for putting up this extremely interesting video. All adults should watch it.

I can't watch the video at the moment because I'm in my office, but most of the research is going in the other direction. After 30 years of low fat diets, Americans are waaaay more overweight than they were 30 years ago. The growing consensus is that a low carb diet is the best way to lose weight and improve your health.

If high carb is so bad, why does it work for billions of people whose main source of calories is rice? They didn't get fat until Western influence. With the Irish it was potatoes. With another country it's corn or sweet potatoes or barley. Do you know any major successful civilization whose main source of calories was not carbs? The Eskimos ate a low carb diet but were not specially healthy or long lived.

The vegsource doctors are slimmer than the low carb doctors and diet gurus. Try to find a fat vegsource doctor. I ain't seen one yet. Maybe they are hiding.

Carbs burn clean. Like a flame without smoke. Both starch and fruit. We need protein as protein, but protein in excess of what is used as protein must be burned as an energy source and it does not burn clean. Like a flame with lots of smoke.

Dogs, cats, carnivorous animals are well adapted for a high meat diet. They have enzyme uricase to help convert uric acid to urea; humans don't have this and must convert uric acid to urea without enzyme uricase. Carnivorous animals have larger kidneys for their body size than humans; this corresponds to more urea to eliminate. Carnivorous animals have stronger stomach acid to digest meat than humans have. A cougar can digest a chunk of meat in about an hour to our four hours.

Body builders who eat a high protein diet have a higher rate of kidney failure than the general population, probably due to the high load on their kidneys caused by a high meat diet. In one study there was a 70% recovery rate of kidney patients by just eating a low protein diet, easier on the kidneys.

I'm not saying we should not eat animal source food, only that we should be careful.

They are saying a high fat diet clogs the cells with fat, thereby interfering with sugar metabolism, maybe causing diabetes. Apparently it is possible to live on a mostly fruit diet (sugar type fruits) and maintain good health if the fat is low. See Michael Superman Arnstein, who ran a 100 (hundred) mile ultra marathon and still had lots of energy. See his youtube channel.

High carb, low protein, low fat. They are saying 80 10 10. Unless you are a body builder or something.

Vegsource has some youtube videos making fun of the Atkins people.

Here's another take on the subject from a neurologist's point of view & how the brain is affected via sugar & carbs:

Total disconnect between the technical stuff and the low carbs conclusion at the end.

How so?

The intermittent fasting diet proves you can eat crap food and still keep your blood chemistry healthy. Just starve yourself most of the day. Same with the warrior diet, most of the day you're eating nothing. Your body has the time to process, your digestive system and endocrine system has time to rest. But, long term, eat too much in the way of empty calories proportionately, you're going to get some kind of disease that will kill you, probably cancer. So, McDougall can get whatever results he wants and sell his books and courses in the short term. But he cannot debunk the research that proves low carb diets are healthier in all respects and easier to sustain without starving oneself to death. I think the good doctor is being paid off by the global warming nut cases: "meat eaters have a larger carbon footprint!" they say. Go vegan! Save the planet!

Low carb/sugar has worked for me. Started it about 15 yrs. ago. I do go off it once in a while because I do like the taste of sugar & pasta...but I quickly return.

Plenty of energy, I swim laps...1/2 mile, no stopping & pump iron. Additionally, my body fat is low, for my age group.

Thanks for the link to Dr. Patrick.

Dr. McDougall advocates high carb; Dr. Atkins advocates low carb. Here they have a lengthy discussion.

Dr. McDougall is in error about fasting; in a more recent video he seems to have learned better from Dr. Alan Goldhamer who supervised thousands of fasts; Dr. McDougall said he refers his more difficult cases to Dr. Goldhamer. Fasting is not starving. Hibernating bears are not starving; hybernation is a specialized kind of fast.

Anyway, they have it out, high carb vs low carb. Both seem to work.

High carb diets cause inflammation in the brain which leads to brain cell destruction...why would anyone want that?

The video in #5 says too much blood sugar is bad. Everyone already knew that. He merely gave one more reason. Then suddenly at the end he says 'low carb', as if it's supposed to be self evident that high carb leads to high blood sugar. No evidence is given. It is merely assumed.

If high carb leads to high blood sugar which leads to brain cell destruction, then that is bad news for billions of people whose main source of calories is rice. And bad news for every civilization whose main source of calories was a starch.

And it's bad news for people who reverse diabetes with rice and sugar.

He assumes high carb causes high blood sugar. He offers no evidence. It is not self-evident.

See #1 for evidence to the contrary.

Low fat vs. low carb for weight reduction. Interesting study.

http://annals.org/article.aspx?articleid=1900692

Doesn't say anything about diabetes.

Doesn't show evidence that high carb causes high blood sugar.

Doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Was just throwing into the mix, as it pertains to quick weight loss.

Worked for me...oh, who's the "we" you are referring to when you wrote: "Doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know"

I don't understand why so many people are interested in weight loss. Worse, I don't understand the importance of the weight loss being quick. Health first, weight control is automatic.

About 'we', I thought it's common knowledge that there are many ways to lose weight -- high carb, low carb, whatever. You can lose weight on any diet, even dogshit. Just don't eat too much.

I look upon a weight control problem as a symptom of a health problem. Fix the health problem (which one should do anyway) and the weight control problem vanishes.

I figure if you need to eat abnormally (eg. Atkins) in order to control weight, then you have some kind of health problem even tho you probably don't know it. A normal person has no problem handling carbs (fruits and starches).
